Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) cable is frequently used to transmit video signals over distances which are too great for coaxial cable. Typically, the range of standard RG59 is approximately 600 ft. UTP cables can be used in conjunction with video baluns to achieve ranges over 1200 feet for full color video. UTP architectures can also be more cost effective for many reasons:

  • UTP costs are typically 50% less than coaxial cable
  • UTP can be terminated very easily
  • UTP can be used to carry video, audio, and data signals over the same cable (with little interference)
