A spot cam is a good general purpose security camera. It usually comes with an integrated varifocal lens and is designed to be used straight out of the box. You may need to purchase a mounting bracket.

It is important that the lens have an auto iris feature and is day/night capable. A camera that does not compensate for night time use can produce a very noisy signal in low light that may result in very large files when used with a DVR.
